Our Methodology
LEARN LIVE BALANCE
At Student Success Spaces our mission is to innovate college student housing by creating spaces that facilitate a healthy Learn Live Balance™ . It starts by building a space that accommodates college students daily tasks i.e. studying, sleeping, nourishment, and socialization. We then pair residents with our design team to complete the Learn Live study that allows us to determine individual design preferences. Designers are busy creating the common and individual spaces over the summer. Regular check-in's are performed with a big reveal August 1st. Woo Pig!

Live Learn Balance Helpful Hints:
Brain Associations with Spaces & Activities: the brain naturally makes associations between spaces and activities. When you try to perform very different types of activities in the same room your brain gets confused and starts working against you. Ever wonder why you feel tired when trying to study in your bedroom? It's because the brain has already associated sleep with that space and not studying. Sleeping and Studying are very opposite types of activities, so it is extremely to do well at both in the same space. HELPFUL TIP: Only do similar activities in a given space.
Mental Health: anxiety and depression are the most common mental health complaints. However, many interior design techniques and approaches have been shown to reduce stress and depression by creating spaces for being together and being apart. HELPFUL HINT: Be careful about the colors, art, and other design elements you select when designing your spaces. Understand how they make you feel.
Spaciousness: people tend to be more creative in rooms with higher ceilings, and their mood improves. However, the positive effects of spaciousness can also be achieved in rooms with lower ceilings. HELPFUL HINT: a sense of spaciousness is the one of the key components to happier places.
Social Interaction: spaces that are easy to navigate and foster social interaction reduced anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed. In all room sizes, the use of furniture arrangement and the function of furniture pieces contributes to creating mentally healthy spaces. HELPFUL HINT: Make sure you can easily walk through your space.
Plants: the presence of plants improves concentration and memory retention and reduces stress.HELPFUL HINT: Start putting plants everywhere.
Colors: In addition to psychological traits and benefits attributed to colors, each colors’ saturation and brightness are significant components in their emotional powers. HELPFUL HINT: Be careful about the colors you put in your different spaces.
Art: Viewing and creating art is one way professionals reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. HELPFUL HINT: Make sure you understand how that art truly impacts you.
Organization: the resulting turmoil from a cluttered and untidy environment can interfere with our ability to concentrate. Your brain’s ability to digest information can also be limited if there is clutter as it can disrupt your attention span. HELPFUL HINT: try to always be organized. Find homes for your stuff.
